Saturday Night at the movies

Went out for dinner with D-Flyer and then watched a movie that he had recently bought and wanted me to see. We fumbled a bit over deciding where to go eat, my excuse was that it's not my neighborhood and I have not been around there for years and I just don't get out much really. So I blurted out Hamilton Street Grill as it was the only place I could think of that I had been to in Yaletown. So we went there and well, it was a bit more of the full on dining experience than we were looking for (that means expensive) and Duh, it was a 'Grill' and thus very meat-centric. We decided to abort and used my vegetarianism as an excuse as the only veg item on the menu was the Mushroom Risotto which, as I recall from my last visit, was what I had last time and it wasn't all that. Well it wasn't $26 of all that.

So we went to my second choice (why am I still the one deciding, I failed the first time) which was Thai Bistro. I know of them just because they are one of our customers. Anyway, it turned out to be great. We had a great time visiting an joking around. Had a delicious meal and the service was fast and furious. well OK, fast and friendly. I was puzzled though by the placement of a Red Bull mini fridge on the bar displaying a selection of Red Bull. The whole place was properly and completely finished in Thai decor and then this one glaringly inappropriate and out of place cooler on the bar. How significant can Red Bull sales be at a Thai restaurant. Must be a smooth talking sales rep.

So D-Flyer had recently rented and then purchased this 2007 movie called "For the Bible tells me so" which is a documentary on homosexuality and the bible. It was extremely well done and really a great movie. Here is a trailer.

It follows the lives of 5 families and their experiences in dealing with how the Scripture and having a gay family member affected their lives. I found it very interesting and informative to watch and very moving of course. It was a very well done documentary and I plan on purchasing it and hopefully watching it with my family. I highly recommend it for anyone whose life is effected by this subject.

My Running Group

I joined Vancouver Front Runners today. International Front Runners is 'an affiliation of GLBT running/walking clubs that have organized in many of larger cities around the world'. The Vancouver group meets twice a week for a 7ish kilometer run and a meal and socializing after. I drove down to Brockton Oval today but in the future I will probably ride my bike, which will also serve as my warm up. Today I wanted to drive just because I was not sure of the facilities and the routine etc.

The run was great, along parts the seawall, through the park, around Beaver Lake and back. Routes I have never done before and so scenic. There sure are lots of people out and active at
that time of the morning. It is great to be part of the 'doing' part of the population. So I was 'buddied up' with another runner, Jim, and we chatted for a lot of the run. He was, as all of the guys I met today, a very nice and friendly guy. I did have to stop and walk though some of the way as my right calf was causing me some grief. I think I just need to stretch it out more. I've reduced the amount of stretching I have been doing lately as my exercise time is getting cut short sometimes and I am shortchanging my stretching. That's a bad thing.
It's great to have this opportunity to just join up with a group of people who are strangers to me and be able to fit in, be included and partake right away. We went for brunch at Wild Garlic after and chatted and hung out for a while. There were about 20 guys at the run today and about 12 went for brunch. They also meet on Wednesdays in Yaletown at 6:30 and of course go for dinner after as well. I am going to try to attend that run as well, it is usually around False Creek and over the Cambie Bridge, a route I am very familiar with. No that work finishes at 5:30 I can easily make it home in time and zip down there on my bike.
This is great. I am so glad I found out about this. I have been wanting to join a running or cycling group as I always do that stuff on my own so this worked out great.

Goodbye my friend

I did it. I called Shaw today and cancelled my cable service.

Having a bit of a panic attack now but I should be OK. I just got home from work and I am kinda pooped. I'd love a nice lie down on the couch and doze off whilst watching some crap TV. Well now there ya go. It's all crap TV. Suddenly I feel better. Besides, it has not been that hard at all to full the week so far. It's amazing how much other stuff I have 'had to do' but managed to put in favor of conducting experiments in couch lethargy.

The idea is that, with out TV, I will have no choice but to get out there and partake in life and find other things to do. Like when I decided to just start running or working out all the time and my body would have no choice but to get in shape. And what happened? I'm in pretty snappy shape!
So, eventually I will adjust and fill my life with fascinating people, interesting activities and amazing adventures. I've just finished my dinner and think, rather than that lie-down, I will take a little stroll around the neighborhood before it gets dark.

Oh, and I have already discovered a new running club that meets twice a week at times that I can actually attend it. I am pretty excited and will be going this Saturday morning at 9:30 to run around Stanley Park. They are just small runs but it... Oh wait, I tell you in another blog after I run. I need to go for that walk.
